Once ‘The Voice’ season 3’s frontrunner, Trevin Hunte was last night knocked out of the competition.
The shocking defeat comes just a few weeks after Cee Lo asked for a moment of silence, “to mourn the loss of all the other competition” after Trevin’s performance. But the star of the man once dubbed a musical messiah has dimmed in recent weeks. His song choices have been safe and it looks like most of America has joined with m in becoming tired of Trevin. There are only so many power ballads one can be moved by.
“Wind Beneath My Wings,” which Trevin performed in the semi-final, probably signaled the end of his chance in this competition. Like I sad yesterday, I don’t know if I love it or hate it. But it is dated and it is cheesy. It didn’t help Trevin’s cause that Terry, Cassadee and Nichols all pretty much smashed it last night, either.
But Trevin need not be too disheartened; he can always pop up on next season of ‘The Voice’ and plug his latest musical project. That’s what a lot of past losers did last night.
Season 2 runners up Juliet Simms, Raelynn, and Chris Mann all showed up to promote their new singles. The performances were varied in quality but on the whole showed why they hadn’t won.
Juliet’s “Wild Child” was pretty bad and did nothing to showcase the rocker’s voice or style. Raelynn told us how she co-wrote “I Want Your Boyfriend,” which is the kind of thing you maybe don’t want to stay out loud if you want to hang on to your country credibility. In contrast, Chris Mann has probably had the most success out of ‘The Voice.’ He reminded me of Josh Groban when he sang “Roads.” Maybe it was a little boring but it was good to see him again.
So who out of Cassadee, Nicholas and Terry would you like to see win “The Voice” season 3. My money is on Cassadee but that might just be wishful thinking. A lt can change on the final performances.
