Juice fasting can be a wonderful experience if it's done right. A lot of research is involved before you can even start. Some may ignore this advice and end up with severe stomach pains, hunger pains, difficult charlie horses in the leg muscles. May even end up in the hospital. Juice fasting isn’t something you can jump into without much thought. But if it's done correctly, a juice fast can be a calming, wonderful experience.
One of the most helpful books on juice fasting is Steve Meyerowitz’s Juice Fasting and Detoxification: Using the Power of Fresh Juice to Feel Young and Look Great. This book gives outstanding advice about what to expect during short and long juice fasts.
There are numerous books on the subject and some even give conflicting advice. it's best to do a short one to three day fast first and see how your body responds. Then perhaps you can move up to a week-long fast to see how things go. The first few days you'll experience hunger pains. These tend to go away after two or three days. Once the food has completely cleared out of your system most people experience a sense of calm that washes over the entire body. After a few weeks, most people don't want to stop because they feel so good and typically because they've lost so much weight.
A good juicer will need to be purchased and the more you spend on it, the less time you'll spend in the kitchen juicing. The more expensive juicers ($300-400) will consume whole apples. Will juice most fruit and vegetables. If you decide to purchase a less expensive and less powerful juicer (typically under $100)…then you'll need to spend time cutting up fruits and vegetables before you can begin juicing. If you can afford to purchase only organic fruits and vegetables. it's much more expensive but the health benefits are incredible and it's worry free of pesticides. It can cost more than $100 for a week of fruits and vegetables to juice.
You may drink as much juice as you want while on a juice fast and for most people this is about a half-gallon of juice a day. You want to drink more water during a juice fast. The juice may be too strong for you and you may find it easier to water it down and drink it that way. it's best to juice every day and drink the juice fresh. Sometimes time doesn’t allow for this and the juice can be saved for a few days in the refrigerator. A 30-day fast cleans out the system, breaks you of a sugar addiction. Will allow substantial weight lost (generally 15-30 pounds) for most people.
Some people don’t have a lot of energy while on a juice fast, while others have an excess of energy. Listen to your body. If you feel like taking a walk do it. Running or strenuous exercise isn’t recommended while you're on a long 30, 60 or 90-day juice fast.
When you begin to experience hunger pains, it's time to stop fasting. Listen to your body. If it begins to go into starvation mode…you won’t lose more weight and you might even gain weight.
What Foods To Eat And Not To Eat For Diabetes?
If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, there are ways to improve and control the symptoms of your disease. It is very important to find...
Some people take supplements while on a juice fast and it's important to determine what your body needs and supplement that if possible.
The real work begins when you come off the juice fast. Some experts say that for every day you're on the juice fast you must spend that exact number of days eating just fruits and vegetables or you'll gain some of the weight you lost back. This does incredible wonders for your body as well and seems to enforce any sugar addiction by eliminating the need for it. you'll begin to crave fresh fruits and vegetables and you'll not desire processed foods. Slowly add nuts, cheese. Protein back into your diet during this time. During this time, some people begin to implement changes in their life style and eating after a long fast followed up with healthy foods. If after a long fast, you just go right back into eating what you did before…you'll gain back the weight you lost very quickly and most likely gain even more back than you lost.
During your fast, you'll be curious about what's going on inside your body. Do as much research on the subject as time allows. It'll help you to become more knowledgeable on the subject and keep you interested in your fast. you'll continue to have bowel movements during your fast and it's normal to wonder how. If you've never been regular before, the fruits and vegetable diet after the fast will regulate most people. Most doctors will tell you that have 3-4 bowel movements every day is the sign of a healthy body and diet. Most Americans have eaten so many processed food that their body only allows them to eliminate a few times a week.
Numerous books mention the benefits of also using an infra-red sauna during and after the juice fast and it helps your body to sweat out the toxins that have been stored in your body during its lifetime. These toxins begin to slowly leave your body during a fast. An infra-red sauna can help that process along more quickly. For more information on an infra-red sauna, click here.
