And sure, I can see how some dude trying to kiss you would be a little weird and jarring, but a slap in the face is a bit of an over reaction, especially given that Smith was surrounded by security detail. It's not like he was protecting himself so much as protecting his image, which leads us to the obvious question…
Doth the Prince protest too much? Will is certainly no stranger to gay rumours and in light of all this recent John Travolta business, I guess once can never be too careful about clarifying that one does NOT enjoy kissing dudes.
Speaking of the incident on Letterman this week (see video #2), Will made no apologies though he did explain that kiss-bombing is apparently a regular thing for the reporter in question: "[The press people were like, 'Oh, no, we're sorry...It's just his 'schtick,'" Smith told Dave. "And I said, 'well, that's why his a** got schtuck.'" Spoken like a true action hero. (USA!)
How do we think Brad Pitt (a laid back dude and pillar of virility) would have handled the same situation? Certainly not a slap in the face, right? In keeping with the Jolie-Pitt first rule of public image (never, ever, ever lose your cool) Pitt probably would have let the lucky journo plant one right on his kisser and laughed it off, one of the many reasons why Brad > Will.
